Tech Session: Micro-Combined Heat and Power from Mass Save

Presenter Bio: Zack Lippert is a Lead Analyst with National Grid in their Customer Energy Management team. Prior to joining National Grid, Zack obtained an MBA with a focus on Energy Business from Carnegie Mellon University. In his previous career, Zack was a member of the New York City chapter of ASHRAE while working as an Energy Engineer at Edison Energy, Eneractive Solutions and Eaton.

Additionally, he was a member of the Penn State ASHRAE student branch while he was earning his Bachelor of Architectural Engineering degree there. In his current role at National Grid Zack focuses on energy efficiency offerings for C&I customers through the Mass Save brand. He has most recently been involved in expanding the asset optimization offers, revising the CHP Guidebook and creating the new micro-CHP offering with the other Mass Save program administrators. He joined the company in 2019. On the personal side, Zack is originally from Pittsburgh, and moved to Boston with his wife after their wedding in 2019. He’s looking forward to exploring Boston when the pandemic subsides.

Presentation Overview: Zack will review what mCHP is and how it compares to CHP. He will go over the CHP offering and why it doesn’t work for mCHP. Zack will explain the mCHP offering and explain which customers are a good fit. He will explain how to participate in the offer and will demonstrate the Custom Express Tool.

New Developments in Combined Heat and Power

Presenter Bio: Mr. Stephen Lafaille is the Director of Business Development for Tecogen Inc. Tecogen is a leading manufacturer of Combined Heat and Power (CHP) products including natural gas engine-driven generators, chillers, and refrigeration packages for commercial and industrial use.

Steve is responsible for developing new business relationships to help grow Tecogen’s awareness and sales, allowing Tecogen to maintain its reputation as the leader in advanced CHP systems. Steve has been with the company for over ten years and started in the engineering group as a product development engineer at Tecogen.

In addition to his business development efforts, Steve works closely with sales people, manufacturer’s representatives, and customers to provide product and application technical support, and performs detailed economic feasibility analyses, and helps close sales. Steve represents the company directly to customers, such as hospitals, schools, colleges, government offices, multi-family housing, and industrial facilities. He also works closely with utilities to create custom incentive programs to help them meet their energy savings goals as well as help their customers improve their bottom line.

Steve has a B.S. and M.S. from the University of New Hampshire both in Mechanical Engineering. Steve is also a registered Professional Engineer in the State of Massachusetts.

Presentation Overview: New Developments in CHP will cover updates to Mass Save CHP incentives, new CHP technology developments, and today’s current market drivers will be reviewed including energy cost savings, resiliency, and carbon savings.
