Main Session:   Basic Electrical for HVAC Engineers

The presentation will focus on items the HVAC engineer should know about connecting their equipment to electrical systems. We will discuss how electricity is produced, the differences between DC, AC, single phase and 3 phase. We will cover basic electrical formulas and discuss the differences between single phase and three phase motors. We will cover motor starters and HOA switches. We will go over HOA wiring diagrams and discuss electrical safety. If you have been specifying motor starters or VFD’s for single phase motors, you should attend this meeting!

Presenter: Steve Tafone P.E. Mr. Tafone has over 40 years of experience in the HVAC and construction fields. He is presently employed at Suffolk Construction Inc., a construction management firm, as Vice President of Engineering. He served as the President of the Boston ASHRAE Chapter in 2004 to 2005. Additionally, he has been teaching various technical courses for over 15 years. Mr. Tafone is a Registered Professional Engineer in MA & NY, has a CFC Universal Certification, LEED AP and holds a MA licenses as a Refrigeration Technician. He received his BSME from Pratt Institute.
